No Coincidence!

by Brooke Nakashima

I’d been at my current job for about 11 months. The job was great…at first, but things began to quickly go downhill and I was miserable. I prayed for God to provide another job, something closer to home that fit my gifts and passions. Nothing. Work became more miserable each day and I dreaded going in.

I was called into my supervisor’s office and he told me the company no longer had a position for me. So that was it. Eleven months of miserably sticking out a job for nothing.

As I walked out the door, I was really shaken up, and very angry with God. I’ve always worked hard and done my best. These things aren’t supposed to happen to good people, right?

I got in my car to go home and my phone rang. I normally don’t answer calls of numbers I don’t recognize, but I felt compelled to answer this one. The person on the other end of the line was the administrator for the company I’d wanted to work for since I finished my education three years ago. She told me she received my application/resume and would like to schedule me for an interview.

I was still shaken from the day’s earlier events, so I stumbled through the conversation as best I could and scheduled an interview for the next week. I went to church that Sunday as I normally do and listened to a sermon on discouragement. The sermon was just for me. I was encouraged but didn’t know what to do with it.

Before I went to the interview, I prayed, “God, I need…” and before I could finish the prayer or even the sentence, I heard, so loud and clear, “…forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead.” So I looked it up (Philippians 3:13) and posted it on Facebook. I was encouraged and comforted beyond anything I’d felt in a very long time.

I went to my interview, but did nothing stellar. I knew my chances of landing the job were slim since I had no experience in this area of my field. I also heard that a well-respected professional with several years of experience was applying for this job. I thought, chalk this interview up to experience.

But I thought, God, You said…

Two days later I received a call from the administrator. She said some very nice things but started setting me up for what I thought was going to be, “We decided to go another way.” Instead, she ended by saying, “and we’d like to offer you the position at $xx/hour,” which was more than I was making at the other job.

God is so amazingly good. There is nothing about myself that got me this position, and I am so excited to be working in a place that God has picked out for me.

Until my new job started, I was booked with consulting jobs. There is absolutely no possible way this could be coincidental. I’m truly blessed.

God is Good All the Time

by Becky Major

I requested prayer for my husband Steve, who is being treated for lymphoma. He came down with a fever, which usually signals infection and could be deadly for him.

Steve had been in the hospital for over a week, but people were praying. The problem was finally identified as a rare virus. His oncologist has only seen one other case (over two years ago).

His fever finally broke, and he was released from the hospital. It had been a rough couple of weeks but our Rock remained firm. Like Pastor Doug Holck always says, “GOD IS GOOD, ALL THE TIME, AND ALL THE TIME, GOD IS GOOD.”

We’re so thankful for Peoples Church and those who participate in the prayer chain. God continues to carry us on this road, and we truly would be lost without HIM.

Giving thanks for the power of prayer,
